Premier Inn - Havant
Isis Basnayaka discovers that the Premier Inn, Havant guarantees a good night’s sleep

The Premier Inn Bedroom

The quality of staying at a Premier Inn is far from indicative of the price. Premier Inn has 500 hotels nationwide making them the largest hotel brand in the UK. The Premier Inn group describe a stay at one of their hotels as “value for money, modern, comfortable and having convenient locations” – I thought I would put this to the test.

Travelling down to Portsmouth there are a few Premier Inns to choose from as Premier Inn all catering for business and pleasure. It was Cowes Week and most of the hotels in the region were reaping the profits of being fully booked; we were therefore lucky to find a room at Havant which was only about a fifteen minute-taxi ride from the centre. The hotel was practically situated next to a motorway , though you would not have easily known this because it was also set back in its own cul-de-sac and one could not hear any traffic!
As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by a charming concierge who explained what to expect from a Premier Inn and gave us our room key. They were extremely helpful with the basics, such as enquiring if guests need an iron, and the concierge very kindly lent me his own mobile phone charger to use when I realised that I had left mine!
The Premier Inn service and standard of room is on par with most mid range hotels. The room is very comfortable and adequately spacious. It had all the mod cons one would need to make a stay comfortable. There were tea making facilities and a flat screen television. The bathroom was clean and functional with a great power shower. The only criticism here was that the power shower was fixed – which meant that when freshening up I ended up having to completely redo my hair! As expected with such a hotel toiletries are not provided, though shower gel is supplied. If you find you have forgotten to pack anything though, the reception desk can provide a necessity pack for a small charge.

The hotel’s restaurant was separate to the actual hotel and the breakfast served was the pinnacle of our stay! For a reasonable £7.50 the restaurant provided an all-you-can-eat cooked breakfast which included a continental option. A very friendly hostess showed us to a table and took our order. Everything was freshly cooked to order staving off the common occurrence of being greeted with lukewarm food which has been sitting under halogen lamps for an eternity. Staff were even helpful when guests asked for food to be cooked in a particular way. I thought I should put their croissants to test out as we waited for our cooked breakfast. Once again, they passed the light, flaky and slightly doughy on the inside test. When it came to a choice of herbal teas there were two types of green tea available!

Now the very personal touch
On leaving, we enquired about the possibility of securing lockers at the central train station for the day. The staff were however exceptionally helpful and went the extra mile by suggesting that we leave our luggage at a closer Premier Inn more central to the city centre. They also provided our taxi with definite directions and the concierge at the other Premier Inn was waiting for us with such a welcoming attitude. Our stay in Portsmouth was a great one mainly due to the service and lovely staff.

With regards to comfort, a good night’s sleep was definitely guaranteed.
