Housed
in the former head office of Dresdner Bank which was built
in 1889, a sensitive development has preserved many of
the original features and dramatic proportions of the
buildings past life. Four of the suites are located in
offices of the former bank directors, carefully revealing
elegant carved wood panelling and ornate ceilings.
Bedrooms
Each of Hotel de Rome’s luxurious rooms and
suites features a dramatic colour palette, from
steel greys, rich magentas, to chocolates, and dusky
peaches. The rooms also provide a textural experience
with crisp linen sheets, velvet throws and cushions,
burnished leathers, and soft thick towels and robes
providing a contrast to accents of steel, glass
and polished chrome.

from the former bank’s vault is set in a

The
hotel as a destination
Hotel de Rome is a destination in its own right
and has many lovely spaces to enjoy. The grand
Opera Court with its original glazed ceiling is
a comfortable place to read and relax while enjoying
a coffee or afternoon tea. By night, Bebel bar
offers a varied program of live music which can
be enjoyed from the long bar overlooking Bebelplatz,
or in the very intimate snug Velvet Room.

Although
the hotel has been open since October 2007, this
summer will see the opening of a level 4 rooftop
terrace overlooking Babelplatz with views of the
adjoining Staatsoper and the dome of St Hedwig's
Cathedral, Berlin’s oldest Roman Catholic
church. The terrace is the perfect place to sip
a well-mixed cocktail at the end of a hard day’s
sightseeing or, for those wishing to catch the
morning sun; a light Italian breakfast will also
be served daily.

The
Hotel caters well for those who do find themselves out
until sunrise. Unlike many hotels which appear to have
a mainly business clientèle in mind, the full buffet
breakfast is available on weekends until 2pm. This is
a delicious and generous buffet, recommended over the
à la carte menu and includes a full range of cold
and hot options, cooked to order together with delicious
fresh pastries and German cakes.
