June 2008 Vol 6- Issue
1
Dear Readers,
With summer
now gladly upon us, I thought that we might share some
ideas about how to have fun while travelling. So we have
been to Abu Dhabi checking out all the party and event
scenes and joined Spain and Regent Street in an attempt
to create the Guinness World Record for the largest
Sevillanas dance and ‘by Jove’ they did it. No matter
what the time of the year, Spain will always find
something to celebrate. The wet London weather did not
deter the Sevillanas dancers to Regent Street. They
turned up in their numbers and colours, so much so that
the rain had to give in to some sunshine. I did not
particularly want to talk about air travel in this
month’s newsletter but it looks like I cannot get away
from it. Alas, another airline bites the dust; Silverjet,
the UK-based airline, has gone into administration and
budget airline Ryanair
has said it will ground up to 10% of its fleet this
winter to combat soaring airport charges. There seem
to be hard times ahead for airlines so when I think of
what Don Langford, head of customer services Europe for
American Airlines said when he delivered an outspoken
attack on London Heathrow, saying it was a "bit of a
dump" that suffered from a lack of investment my heart
bleed for the UK and Heathrow. Mr Langford told BBC
Radio 4 that Heathrow was the worst of all European
destinations his company flies to. He said "Heathrow is
not just bursting at the seams but that the seams have
burst”. As if the UK had not had enough interference,
IATA CEO Giovanni Bisignani has also put UK Airports and
BAA at the bottom of the pits – what next? – Well I
guess we will still travel because we love to. Once
again enjoy this newsletter and do not hesitate to let
me have your comments.
Warm
regards Lyssiemay Annoh Editor
Destination of the month - Abu Dhabi
Revisited for Business: The first time
we visited, it was in 2004; at a time when the country
was transforming itself from a small fishing village
before the discovery of oil in the early 1960s into a
metropolis which blends modernity and traditional
Arabian culture. It was also the year when Abu Dhabi
created its Tourism Authority. Today, it has succeeded
in putting the destination on the map and is aiming its
visitors market to the sophisticated business traveller,
who would like to enjoy the best in corporate
incentives, host meetings in style and invest in the
country. Continue
